Tastes like nuts and sweets oranges.

The Dragon and the Turtle by Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark

Who knew that bugs could be crunchy, squishy and taste like nuts and sweet oranges? Meet Padraig, the curious little dragon who befriends a lost turtle. Roger the turtle is  lost with a growling tummy who uses his five senses to describe his house to his new friend. Do you remember what your house smells like? What does your house sound like?  I love that Padraig the dragon chooses to never leave his new friend, even when they are not successful the first few times of finding Rogers home. The best part is the discovery  questions at the end of the story. My children like to  discuss the story after we read a book. We talk about what might happen if different choices are made. This little gem is a great tool to get conversation started about choices, new friends, and non judgement of what others like.  The very last page is a great treat; a recipe for chocolate chip snappers. Make a good choice and get this book. Then, make a date with your kids and have some fun.

Update: Just made the recipe in the back called chocolate chip snappers. They are getting snapped up.  I will tell you that these little cookies are just the  most fun to bake together with kids. It uses a pudding mix in the cookie recipe.
